Safety After the Baby Comes

  • Make sure that the mattress is snug in the crib and that there is no extra bedding in it

  • No walkers-ever!!! Take back any you get as a shower present and get one without wheels

  • Get smoke detectors and make sure the ones you have work

  • Set the hot water thermostat for less than 120 degrees F

  • Make everywhere, especially the home and car, smoke free

  • Consider taking a class on infant CPR

Plus…

  • Make sure that the car seat is always secured properly.

  • Put the baby to sleep on their back or side to decrease the risk of SIDS

  • Test the water temperature on your wrist to make sure it's not too hot before giving the baby a bath.

  • Do not drink hot liquids while holding the baby

  • Never, ever, ever shake the baby!!!!

  • Never leave the baby alone with a young sibling or pet

  • Do not leave the baby alone in a tub if water (even to answer the phone) or on high places such as a changing table or chair)

  • Always keep one hand on the baby
