Car Seat concerns from Consumer Reports
Infant Car Safety Seats Questioned in Consumer Reports
A report released yesterday from the Consumers Union in the February issue of Consumer Reports magazine claims that most rear-facing infant-only car seats did not perform adequately in their independent crash tests.
The tests included frontal crashes at a higher speed than required by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for car safety seats and side-impact crashes, which are not currently required for NHTSA car safety seat tests. Only two of the infant-only car safety seats on the market passed the tests performed by Consumers Union. Parents with questions about their child’s car seat should contact the manufacturer directly.
